Presses for Bookbinding
Click the menu links to see various presses.
These presses have wooden screws cut by hand using shop made taps and dies. Though carefully and cleanly cut, the threads are coarse; this has several benefits. Large, coarse threads are ‘fast’; it only takes three or four turns to open or close a press an inch. Also, since they can be made with a looser fit they will not seize up with seasonal humidity changes. Visit the other menu links to see what presses I have been making and to get some information about the processes used to make these tools.
