Wooden Presses
These presses have wooden screws cut by hand using shop made taps and dies. Though carefully and cleanly cut, the threads are coarse; this has several benefits. Large, coarse threads are ‘fast’; it only takes three or four turns to open or close a press an inch. Also, since they can be made with a looser fit they will not seize up with seasonal humidity changes. Visit the other menu links to see what presses I have made and to get some information about the processes used to make these tools.
